Several years ago, a couple friends and I created a writing group. Each month one person presented a photo that they had taken and we would all write a short story – one thousand words…more or less. This idea was based on the old adage that a picture is worth a thousand words.
We did this for several years, churning out some amazing stories. What was so interesting is how each of us would have a different approach in how the image was incorporated into the story. It was a special time and our friendship grew and spawned beautiful memories.
Every image has a story to tell and I want the viewer to feel or see the story- to pause or reflect on what that image offers. Whether it is simply to walk into the forest and imagine the smell of pines and the feel of the sun on your face as you walk in and out of the shadows or to view the image of a dilapidated, abandoned home and to imagine who lived there and what their lives were like. I want my viewer to feel as if they were right there in the moment that I captured that story.
Today, we are inundated with photos in our social media platforms and it is challenging to stand out among the crowd. However, that is not my mission. My mission is to create an image that will captivate and resonate on an emotional level. Not every image will affect people the same way – but as I capture a scene that speaks to me, I know that I have attained that goal.
Here are a few of my favorites that tell a great story – if you’re listening with your eyes and heart.

Excellent images and captions!

Captivating images Angela! Your writing group focused on joining words with images is a wonderful idea. Words and photos separately can mean so much; put them together and they can really sing.
